Who is barney?

On my way out at home, I overheard three kids singing that barney song. They were playing right outside my doorstep with this hop-skip-jump game, they are blocking my way so i stopped and listened. The lyrics are a bit different to the ones i usually hear.

I love you, You love me
Lets go out and kill Barney
With a shotgun. Bang! Bang!
Barney on the floor.
No more stupid dinosaur.

Well, I never knew children also hated barney. I myself, think that the barney show is a gay show. T-Rex Dinosaurs are not supposed to be friendly and in my own opinion they should stay extinct.
